On Tuesday, students from the Take Action Group and Leaders For Change were introduced to Carol Mogere, the principal of Kisaruni All Girls Secondary School in Kenya and Magdalene Resiato – a 16-year-old student attending Kisaruni school. They shared their belief that education can transform communities.
Carol’s belief about empowering the youth to enrich their communities and themselves resonated in the community room. They shared their life stories and the impact our students’ work has on their community.
Below are quotes from students:
“I was inspired by this presentation. While listening to Magdalene, her life seemed very busy, waking up at 4:45 am and lights were out at 10 p.m. It was a full day of learning, every second accounted for, and yet, she did not complain about anything, you could see how happy she was. This meeting was a wonderful experience, it makes me want to work harder in school and raise money to help people who do not have a lot.”
“When I met Magdalene, the first thing I noticed was her smile and how happy she was to be here.”
“Just knowing that we are helping is heartwarming, but to be able to meet and talk to the people whose lives we are changing is inspiring. I hope I will get a chance to experience a trip like this in high school!”
“Both Magdalene’s and Ms. Mogere’s speech reminded me that even one person can make a change!”
