Hey Mentor sports fans, here’s some great news! On Monday, the HS tennis team returned to the Rexall Center for the yearly invitational doubles tournament. Facing off against players from all over the GTA, our doubles teams either won their division or placed in the top three. This is by far the most successful tournament showing we have ever had in Mentor Tennis.
The Mentor junior boys teams were so strong this year that they both made the final match. It was a Mentor vs Mentor showdown – guaranteed silver and gold! The team of Daniel Gharagozloo and Loic Rahier proved to be the ultimate winner completing the tournament in style. Daniel even hit a “tweener” (between the legs) shot to win one point during the match. Teams of Yousef Al Hashemi and Nathan Spies, Faiz Sayed and Mark Keran looked great in all their matchups and look to be carrying momentum into their ROPSSAA qualifying tournament.
Other junior players Raymond Guo and Stephanie Li were chosen to be matched up with senior doubles partners Kashun Cho and Mia Chan and both definitely held their own in senior play. The senior mixed team of Nadia Al Hashemi and Mahesh Vijaykumar also placed in the top three in the competition! With all this success coming out of the Rexall tournament, the Mentor tennis team is likely to have its best year yet on the courts!
