The past Friday was Mentor’s 5th annual Carnaval! There was even a new human foosball game added this year! Carnaval started off with a quick assembly showing off our class banners and crowning the Duke, Duchesse, Reine, Roi, les Knuks et Bonhomme Carnaval. In Grade 5 the Duke was Rasheed Ahmed and the Duchesse was Malaika Watts. In Grade 6 the Roi was Jack Henderson and the Reine was Mia Cappuccitti. Charlie Fink was an excellent Bonhomme escorted by his joyful Knuks, Catie Thorne, Ben Tano and Manreet Boparai. Then, we went outside to enjoy some fun activities. There was Human Foosball, Bonhomme Dressing, and many more. We also enjoyed some cozy hot chocolate (with marshmallows!) and a delicious maple syrup cookie. Just as my class started eating, it started to snow! We thought it was a snow machine, however, we found out it was just Mother Nature rewarding us for showing great enthusiasm. We all started shouting, “It’s a Carnaval Miracle!”

After the Grades 5 and 6 students headed inside the 7s and 8s had their chance to enjoy Carnaval. They laughed and enjoyed the Carnaval assembly and even had a masquerade during the banner parade. The Duke and Duchesse from Grade 7 were Andrew Goshovskiy and Sara Hudda respectively. The Grade 8s were represented by Andrew Tano as “le Roi”, Sonia Singh as “la Reine” and Lene Al Shibli as “Bonhomme Carnaval”! Knuks from Grade 7 and 8 were: Holly Nason, Audrey Nguyen, Julian Domingues, Bishan Sunner, Sean Khaira, Kenya Shreve and Rachel Houston.

It was a very fun day and everyone enjoyed it. Joyeux Carnaval!
