In the Intermediate Division, students continue their French language studies with a focus on sentence construction and the placement of parts of speech within the context of a sentence. There is also a concentration on writing, speech production, reading, and aural comprehension.
The Grades 5/6 curriculum puts students in charge of delivering an extended narrative – like a play – in French! They also practise and learn conversational situations around such topics as sports, ordering food, travel words, everyday conversation. They begin to learn to interact with the French world in a meaningful way.
In Grades 7/8, students are conducting fuller conversations in French. They are asking/responding to questions. Students are handling more complex sentences and in their written work they are absorbing longer texts and producing paragraph responses.
