In Canada, mastery of both French and English can open doors of opportunity to your child.
At Mentor College, students are taught to understand and to speak French beginning in junior kindergarten and progressing all the way through to the pre-university Grade 12 course.
At the kindergarten level, vocabulary is introduced on a thematic basis and applied through songs and stories. As your child progresses, reading and writing skills are gradually introduced and formal examinations in French begin in Grade 7 (written and oral). The AP (Advanced Placement) French credit is offered and many Grade 8 students at Mentor have the opportunity to complete the mandatory high school Grade 9 French credit.
As other languages gain prominence in the world, Mentor College will continue to address the need to add foreign language studies to its classroom and extracurricular activities. Spanish is now offered at the Grade 10 and 11 level in the high school programme.
