From Grades 5 to 8, the topics are balanced between the biological and physical sciences. Students can apply their in-class knowledge in three contests. In Grade 6, the students apply their knowledge of “Forces of Motion” in the annual Roller Coaster Challenge and in Grade 7 and 8, the Science Fair sees the well-researched projects presented at the school for fellow students, teachers and judges.
The top projects from the Mentor Science Fair advance to the Peel Region Science Fair and typically come home with a handful of awards at this competition each year. Since 2007, Mentor has participated in the “First Lego League” regional contest. In January 2014, Mentor students reached the provincials – competing against 50 other teams from across the province!
In the same year, at the Peel Region Science Fair, Mentor College was awarded the Marc Garneau Trophy – for the school achieving the highest overall team average!
