There was a flurry of activity on the field construction this week! On Wednesday, asphalt was poured for the 4-lane track and long jump pit and it became much easier to see how the field will take shape. The track needs to cure until mid-October before the rubberization and line painting can take place. Over in the “jungle gym” area, two shock-absorbing layers of foam were laid, then a layer of artificial turf and tomorrow the turf will be filled with the rubber pellets for an even safer play surface. Next week, you will start to see the turf field take shape starting with the south end zone and working towards the train tracks.
As the sections of the field are completed, the construction fences will move northward and allow recesses to return (and then grow) in this area of the property. We thank all of the teachers and students for adapting their recess routines early in the school year. Your patience will pay off soon with a beautiful, new place to play!
