Grade 12 Mentor biology student Dev Desai was recently awarded 3rd place in the MD Consultants “Cost Of Care Essay Competition.” Dev’s teacher Ms. Reintjes put the challenge (which is offered to any undergraduate/Grade 12 student interested in pursuing a career in medicine) to her class and Dev (a Grade 11 student currently enrolled in Grade 12 Biology and AP Biology) accepted!
With a focus on why public health care is do important in the Canadian community, Dev shed light on what can happen when you cut federal funding to health care. “The research was actually the hardest part…I read through a lot of medical sites as well as news sites…and of course it all had to be properly referenced,” he says on the weeks-long process of completing his essay.
Unsurprisingly, Dev plans on a future career in medicine. We look forward to future news on Dev’s success!
