Grade 6 Mentor students travelled to the Living Arts Centre to explore screen-printing with an experienced printmaker. Students have been studying how images are used in media during their language arts classes and they saw first hand how logos and graphics are created and then printed on apparel like jackets and T-shirts.
After brainstorming, students were inspired to create images and stencils that would be used on the screens. Once their stencils had been prepared, students choose from cool or warm colour palettes, applied the paints to the screens, and transferred their designs to paper. Students loved the colour blocking effect and original artwork they created.
