Last week, Mentor Grade 7s were off to Dundurn Castle, a national historic site. They toured the home of Sir Allan MacNab and learned about his lifestyle and family. In addition to the vast tour of the underground tunnels and endless rooms, the students were challenged with creating their own battle plan to fend off the American soldiers during the war of 1812.
They also had the opportunity to dress up as various soldiers and learned the rank of the different individuals and how the clothes represented the ranks. Highlights included the artifacts at the museum such as the muskets, spears and various other weapons that were used to defend their land.
The consensus from the students? “This was definitely a fun and educational trip that we recommend for the Grade 7s next year”.
