On February 4, the 20 members of Mentor’s Model United Nations team headed to downtown Toronto to attend UTMUN (University of Toronto Model United Nations), a conference run for high school students by U of T students. There were over 500 delegates present from schools all across Ontario, with a few students even traveling in from out of province! In their respective committees, Mentor’s delegation simulated events from all around the world and during different points in history.
From the Manhattan Project during the Cold War to Jurassic Park, delegates had a blast engaging in high-level debate over interesting topics. The team was also lucky enough to have Mr. Hall drop by to witness Mentor students in action during committee sessions, after which he had only positive remarks about the team! At closing ceremonies, the team did Mentor proud as five students brought home awards.
Congratulations to Ryan McDowell and Nathan Fischer for their Honourable Mentions, Jonathan Bellini and Michael Kalaparambath for their “Best Position Paper” awards, and Aaditeya Jhaveri for receiving the “Outstanding Delegate” award. And a special thanks to Mrs. Moosa, Hannah, and Mr. Shapcott for being our team’s wonderful staff advisors in preparation for and during the trip. Well done delegates! We look forward to seeing you at SSUNS next November!
