12 members from the Mentor College Wrestling team travelled to Florida for a training camp over the Winter Break. The team began the trip with a great training session led by head coach Russ Cozart – star of ESPN’s “The Streak” – at Brandon High School.
This session was followed by three very informative and sweaty practices at Indian Rocks Christian School with their tough wrestlers and energetic coach Jay Dugmore. The Mentor wrestlers were able to see the commitment and focus needed to succeed at a high level while having some laughs along the way. Marauder athletes worked hard between practices with early morning team runs and wrestling drills on the beautiful beach in Clearwater.
Highlights included a day at Busch Gardens, NCAA Basketball game at South Florida University, a tugboat cruise with a dolphin sighting, and the first ever Mentor College Mini-golf Cup won by Gurjot Ravi. Mr. Miller, Mr. D’Aguilar, and Miss Cipriano were impressed with the level of work ethic and overall unity of the group. It is now time to turn up the intensity and train for ROPSSAA this year. Work hard, play hard!
