Mentor College was founded in 1982 to provide a programme of education based on proven traditional methods of teaching.
![]() Since then, the school has earned a reputation for solid academic performance. Emphasis is placed on the basics of reading, writing, and mathematics, and on preparing students for an active, rewarding life. Director, Ken Philbrook, co-founded Mentor College because as a teacher, he was concerned with the direction education was taking. He dedicated himself to building and maintaining a unique environment where children can experience the joys of learning and develop self-confidence and self-esteem.
As a parent himself, Director Ken Philbrook knows and understands your concerns about the education of children. He takes an active role in maintaining a positive, caring environment, rich in personal attention, where children are encouraged to think and reason for themselves.
Mr. Philbrook holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Elementary, Intermediate and Specialist Certificates in Special Education and a Diploma in the Education of Exceptional Students. He has taught in the special and regular education fields in both the public and private school systems. The school educates children from junior kindergarten through to a university entrance level. Children at Mentor College are grouped by age and experience in three levels of study: primary, junior-intermediate and high school. These groupings follow the curriculum set out by the Ontario Ministry of Education for all schools in the province.

Mentor College is registered with the Ontario Ministry of Education and follows its guidelines for junior kindergarten through to university entrance.
Parental Involvement in the Learning Process When your son or daughter attends Mentor College, the teaching staff assumes responsibility for educating your child to his or her potential. You can be sure the homeroom teacher will contact you monthly to discuss your child's progress. However, your child's teacher would like to hear from you any time you have concerns. Mentor College holds an Open House in early October, an occasion when parents can talk with all teachers and school administrators.
