"One Last Kiss" From The Intermediate Division June 30 2010

This year's Intermediate Division musical, "Bye Bye Birdie" tells the story of Conrad Birdie - a 1950s rock star - who travels to Sweet Apple, Ohio to perform his hit, "One Last Kiss", and give one lucky girl from his fan club a real "last kiss" on The Ed Sullivan Show before going into the Army.

The shows took place on Tuesday and Wednesday night this week.

Grade 6 Mentor student, Graeme Inglis, submitted the following report:

"With a “standing-room only” audience on opening night, and a packed house on closing night, outstanding performances were given by all 32 cast members, including leads Russell Sweeney, Julia Cappellacci, Adina Vlasov, and Evan Bennewies.  A special mention goes to the stage crew and tech team for their awesome work, and who can forget our yellow Tshirt-clad chorus belting out the songs!"

Congratulations to the cast and crew of "Bye Bye Birdie" on a truly spectacular production! Miss Derventzis, Mrs. Dziuryn, Ms. Narvaez, and Mr. Belluzzo would like to thank everyone involved for making this year’s musical one to remember!

A special mention goes out to the top three grade 5 and 6 students.  They wrote the competition even though it was above their grade level.

Grade 6:  Rakan Khoury, Timothy Romanski, and Joseph McGuire

Mentor Hosts FLL Regional Tournament November 30 2009

This past Saturday, Mentor College hosted the FLL (FIRST LEGO League) Halton-Peel Regional Qualifier Tournament. It is the third year that the school has hosted the event.

The FIRST LEGO League introduces students to real-world engineering challenges, requiring them to build LEGO-based robots designed to complete a series of missions.  FLL teams, guided by their imaginations and their teacher-coaches, discover exciting career possibilities and through the process, learn to make positive contributions to society. The year's tournament theme was "Smart Move" - with the focus on providing innovative ideas to solve transportation problems facing scientists, urban planners, and engineers today.

Mentor College entered 3 teams into the 22-team tournament: "Kinetica X-Elle", "Mentor Mega Makers", and "One Step At A Time." Congtratulations to all of the teams on a job well done - especially to the "Mentor Mega Makers" for reaching the semi-finals and for being invited to the Provincial tournament in January.
