2nd Annual Memories To Music Project May 25 2010
On Tuesday evening, Mentor College was host to a very special evening - the 2nd Annual Memories To Music celebration. This project is a partnership between Mentor College and the Peel Alzheimer Society. The partnership connects students with seniors. The student takes the time to get to know his / her senior partner and writes a song that celebrates the senior partner's life! Following writing, editing, and rehearsing the songs for a few weeks, the culminating event of the project took place on Tuesday evening - when the students had the opportunity to perform their songs for their senior partners.Click here to watch highlights from the show.
Believe The Rumours! This Year's 2010 HS Play Was Fantastic! April 12 2010
The basic premise of Neil Simon's "Rumors" is this: several affluent couples gather in the
posh suburban residence of a couple for a dinner party celebrating their host's tenth anniversary. What happens, however, when there are no servants, the hostess is missing, and the host has shot himself through the earlobe? Things get a little more interesting. This year's HS Spring Play was downright hilarious! The terrific cast had the audience laughing like wild Wednesday and Thursday night in O' Brien Hall. Grade 12 audience member, Marissa, exclaimed, "It is the best play I have ever seen!" HS principal, Mr. Whyte, was right when he told the audience after the first performance that the show was "even better than some professional shows" he had seen! Congratulations to Rebecca Sferlazza, Feerass Ellid, Teo Mechetiuc, Evan Benak, Evan Williams, Katherine Cappellacci, Christian Horoszczak, Danica Bennewies, Justin Santelli, and Connor Lowman on a terrific job! Thank you to everyone who gave generously at the door! $750 was collected - all of which will be given to the "Memories To Music" project - a joint effort between the Peel Alzheimer's Society and Mentor College. Adventure Cambodia Students Return From Trip Of A Lifetime April 1 2010
On March 10, a group of 21 students and 3 teachers went to Cambodia to tour the country and, more importantly, to donate money raised by the Mentor community for landmine removal and victim assistance. The purpose was for the students to meet the Cambodians who would receive the aid that had been collected for a year leading up to the trip. The highlights of the trip included a somber tour of the Khmer Rouge killing fields and being in the mine fields of northern Cambodia. As well, the students toured Angkor Wat and other spectacular temples. But all of this was exceeded by the day spent in a village where the funds raised will be used to clear landmines and build a filtered water reservoir. These people actually live in a minefield, so they were very appreciative of the efforts made by the Mentor community. It was a very special trip that the students are sure to remember throughout their lives. Watch a slideshow from the trip!

On March 12, the Mentor HS Mock Trial team returned to the Brampton Criminal Courts to
compete in the Championship rounds of the Peel Mock Trial tournament. The months of hard work and preparation were rewarded as the team defeated St. Edmund Campion in the final round and was crowned the 2010 Champions of Peel. In reviewing the team's performance, the Honourable Justice Lemon of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice said: "To see the passion and effort you all put into this was thrilling and we look forward to having some of you appear before us one day after law school". Captain Nathan Mooney was singled out for special praise as he was named the Top Orator of the tournament. "We are very proud of what we have accomplished so far...", said coach Clarizia. "but we also feel like we have a lot left to do." The team now sets it's sights on the all-Ontario championship as it prepares to compete in the Ontario Bar Association Regional tournament in Toronto on April 7th. HS Students "Pumped" About Weight Room Expansion December 15 2009
Following several weeks of brick-breaking, construction, and painting, renovations of the weight room are now complete. Through a lot of hard work, the existing weight room at the Main Campus has more than doubled in size and amount of equipment. The new equipment offers a great opportunity for students to get a complete cardio-vascular and strength training work-out at school. The gym is opened and supervised by various teachers everyday at lunch and after school.Among the new additions are: a new treadmill, elliptical, 2 new spin bikes, Olympic bench press, and EZ curls bars. Physical Education students and members of school teams are very excited about the weight room! Teachers are looking forward to how the newly improved facility will continue to benefit existing programs for many years to come. Audience Loves "She Loves Me" December 15 2009
This year, the HS Drama department took us back to 1940s Budapest in the musical, "She Loves Me." Lindsay Lucato and Rohan Bhalla led an amazing cast as they told (sang) the story of Amalia and Georg in this year's High School musical production. The performances took place on Tuesday, December 8th and Wednesday, December 9th in O'Brien Hall at the Main Campus.Originally a Broadway production in 1963, the plot revolves around Budapest shop employees Georg Nowack and Amalia Balash who, despite being consistently at odds with each other at work, are unaware that each is the other's secret pen pal met through lonely-hearts ads. Thank you to all who gave at the door! A total of $905.07 was collected - all of which will be donated to Art Starts - a grass-roots, community-based arts facility serving people in under-served communities.
