Seventeen lucky students from the Intermediate division Leaders For Change group spent last Friday at the Air Canada Centre celebrating ‘We Day.’ An inspirational experience for all involved, it featured such guests as Col. Chris Hadfield, Martin Luther King III, the Hon. Kathleen Wynne, The Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato and The Barenaked Ladies, who touched upon issues such as bullying, hunger, empowerment, and education.
LFC member Stephanie Abrokwa writes,
One person who really inspired me greatly was Molly Burke. She made me realize that our choices about how we act towards others may affect them in a bad or good way for the rest of their lives. We are not obligated to be nice to everyone, but we should be tolerant of the feelings and opinions of the people we meet. All of the lecturers told how we could make a difference, but it is our choice to either keep to ourselves or get out of our comfort zone to help others. ‘We Day’ wasn’t just for us to enjoy the musical guests – though we did greatly; it was for us to finally change from thinking about ‘me’ to ‘we’.
HS students also had a great day at the ACC! Our students were honoured by Marc and Craig Kielburger by receiving a special mention for all of the great work that they do. The group was also interviewed on CP24!
