This past weekend a team of 12 students represented Mentor College at the 47th annual Peel Region Science Fair. Competing against over 100 other students from across the Peel Region, Mentor College did extremely well with great results!
We would like to recognize Connor Reintjes, Kevin Cao, Jack MacLeod, Justin Charbonneau, and Karishma Desai for their participation and whose efforts along with the rest of the team put Mentor College in a tie for the Marc Garneau Trophy, which is awarded to the school with the highest overall average score.
Special mention goes out to Anjana Sudharshan, John Piatek, Caleb Chadwick and Max Baluta whose scores earned Peel Region Science Fair Honourable Mentions.
Caleb Chadwick was also a specialty award winner, receiving the Credit Valley Horticultural Society Award for his project which looked at supplementing photosynthesis through glucose injections.
Our big winners of the day were Mariam Jafri, who tested recycled water as a means to solve global water shortage and Irene Ni and Angellica Nguyen and their investigation of cacao pods and sapwood as adsorbents for water decontamination. These girls were awarded a Bronze Medal, and ranking in the top ten, they will also be representing the Peel Region at the Canada Wide Science fair which this year will be held in Montreal, Quebec!
