Last week saw the High School mock trial team’s strong season come to an end with a quarterfinal loss to St. Thomas Aquinas in the Ontario Bar Association’s Championship tournament in Toronto.
What started in November with close to 200 teams competing throughout the province came down to the top 8 schools traveling to Toronto for a shot at the title. Mentor qualified for the “Elite Eight” after winning the Central West Regional championship in March. This was the second straight year, and the 5th time in our team’s 9-year history, that we’ve made it to Provincials.
Congratulations go out to: Sarah Raja, Alisha Krishna, Amanda Berardi, Mustafa Bengali, Julia Kim, Kathryn Torriano and Tracy Wu. A special thank you and good luck goes out to graduating seniors Samantha Figenshaw, Matthew Rowland and Evan Bennewies. Wherever the next chapter of your lives may take you, remember this: The Courtroom will always be your home and you’ll always be welcome.
Any students interested in trying out for next year’s team, or have questions about the mock trial program at Mentor, please see Mr. Clarizia in room 259 at any time. Mock Trial is open to students of all grades and you don’t have to take law to be on the team (we’ll teach you everything you need to know).
By virtue of defending our Ontario Central West Regional title Mentor will be, once again, hosting the regional competition in 2015. Any students interested in volunteering to help with the tournament should listen to announcements in the new school year.
