Students at all levels are active in choirs, ensembles and bands, and take part in recitals, assemblies and competitions all year long.
Our choirs, choral speaking, and instrumental ensembles always place highly in the Peel Music Festival, and in the upper grades, a concert is held near ther beginning of May each year.
In the primary grades, the number of choirs depends on the number of interested students; there are at least two choirs offered at the primary level. Both of these choirs perform at school assemblies throughout the year, and the Children’s Chorus (Grades 1 to 4) participates annually in the Peel Festival of Music.
Two choirs are offered at the intermediate level, and the high school students test out their vocal chords during the December musical. Students in vocal groups from Grades 5 to 12 perform annually at the Festival Of The Arts, which is near the beginning of May in the O’Brien Hall at the Main Campus.
Ensembles are offered at each level to allow students a chance to take part in a performing group while playing the instrument they are studying in their music classes. In Grades 3 and 4, a recorder ensemble performs at school assemblies, and a “pit band” is formed for the year-end musical.
In Grade 5 and 6, a guitar club is offered and in Grades 7 and 8, students can enhance their new-found instrumental skills in the intermediate and jazz bands.
At the high school level, participation in a school band is part of the course credit and there are currently bands for Grade 9, Grade 10, senior band for Grades 11/ 12, jazz band, wind ensemble and pit band. All instrumental groups from Grades 5 to 12 perform at the Festival Of The Arts.
