Students Attend Al Gore Lecture

Yesterday, a group of students had the opportunity to listen to a lecture on climate change by former US Vice President Al Gore at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. Members of the Intermediate Division’s LFC, Grade 8 Initiative, and Intermediate & HS Environment Clubs were in attendance.

Grade 6 student Ryan Ivanov writes,

Yesterday 60 of us students went to see Al Gore speak with Kathleen Wynne on the impact of global warming and student leadership. We learned that global warming affects all of us and we should take action now. Al Gore invited us to make a difference. One thing we can do is educate ourselves. We as children can make the most change.

All of us have to speak up, otherwise there will be no progress. The talk was very inspiring. We received Mr. Gore’s book, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth To Power. I invite everyone to check it out over the March Break. Some light reading. And let’s remember to participate in Earth Hour on March 24!
