Students Ready For Year Of Empowerment

we-dayHS student Nara Monteiro submitted the following report:

Early last Thursday morning, a small group of Mentor students huddled among the masses waiting to file into the ACC in downtown Toronto. Walking out onto the floor, the hum rose above the expected sounds of such a loud crowd; it betrayed the energy in the air, the anticipation and vitality of the 20,000 people present.

We Day is a yearly event run by Me to We and Free the Children that celebrates the fantastic work done by the organization’s volunteers, direct and indirect, and takes a look at the organizations’ ideas and campaigns for the coming year. Representatives from Mentor’s Take Action Group had a fantastic experience at We Day 2014. Craig and Marc Kielburger, Robin Wiszowaty and Mama Lea, Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan, Col. Chris Hadfield, rocket scientist Natalie Panek, inspirational sensation Spencer West, 12-year-old activist blogger Hannah Alper, Katie Couric, and inspirational speaker Ashley Murphy were among the incredible “teachers” in the performance, ingeniously organized like a school day. Scattered among the speakers were famous singers and a fair amount of dancing, keeping the crowd on their feet and spirits high.

TAG is excited and newly inspired in their vision this year. Mentor, prepare yourselves for the upcoming Year of Empowerment, because change is in your hands.
