For Charity Grade 10 Civics students at Mentor College participated in the Youth Philanthropy Initiative this year. Last Tuesday, Mentor College held its fourth annual YPI Final Competition Assembly in O’Brien Hall.
This was a competition among 7 groups of student finalists, each defending a local grass-roots charity in the hopes of winning a $5000 grant for that charity. With $5,000 on the line, the competition was fierce! Mrs. Brady and Mr. McCallen were so proud of all the groups and how well the students represented their chosen charities at the assembly. We want to commend each student for his/her efforts and abilities that were so clearly on display! The presentations were executed with precision and thought.
The winning presentation was in support of Our Place Peel (a homeless shelter for youth in the Peel Region), which was presented by Alison Andrade, Sophia Begna, Sydney Kolida, and Sabrina Sunner. Congratulations girls, for making a real change in your local community! Thanks to all, including the 4 judges, who were involved in this very special process!
