Grade 8 Mentor student Nikki Nguyen submitted the following report:
On November 3, 2013, tragedy struck the Philippines as Typhoon Haiyan his the country, destroying entire cities and coastal areas; leaving peoples and families without shelter, food or clean water. The grade 8 classes of Mr. Peters, Mrs. Izzi and Mr. Fournie combined forces to see how much money they could raise in one day. Knowing that the federal government will match any donations, the classes chose last Friday to ask for a loonie or a toonie from the students in the intermediate division. As always, Mentor students rose to the challenge and we managed to raise $500 to support the Red Cross in their efforts to provide aid. So, with the matching funds from the government, the intermediate division will be providing $1000! The students in 8C, 8D and 8H would like to thank the Mentor College Community for their support; once again proving that we can make a difference in people’s lives when we work together.
