Mentor’s Intermediate Division mock trial group spent Tuesday morning last week at the Toronto Courthouse. Members were lucky enough to witness two trials in action, including one featuring the defense team of Brian Greenspan. Students were so well behaved that the judge asked where the students were from and called a recess to allow Mr. Greenspan the opportunity to address the students in order to give the an explanation of the case. Ethan Leon said the trip was a huge success. Sean Patterson added that he had the oppotunity to see two exciting trials.
This week, former Mentor parent Judge Dunnet and current Mentor parent Mr. Harrington came to Mentor College to update the group on the status of the case. Although the students expected a guilty plea, Judge Dunnet informed them that the verdict was not guilty. Mr. Harrington – an expert witness in civil cases – outlined to the students the structure of the court system and the importance of protecting your online reputation.
Mr. Dorey would like to thank all our club members for making this, our first year, such a great learning experience.
