Intermediate Division (Grades 5-8)

The Intermediate Division (Grades 5 through 8) offers students a challenging curriculum in a highly structured environment. This combination makes effective use of classroom time and helps students develop a disciplined approach to learning both at school and at home.

To help prepare students for the more complex topics they will encounter in later grades, teaching methods concentrate on the fundamentals. The dedicated and attentive teachers work closely with the students to ensure that they understand and do not just memorize what has been taught. Homeroom teachers instruct in math, reading, grammar, writing, spelling, and social studies. Music, French, art, science, and physical and health education are taught by specialty teachers in those subject areas.

With consistent effort and encouragement from their teachers, peers, and parents, all students benefit from the advanced curriculum. Interpersonal and independent study skills are developed and refined to prepare pupils thoroughly for high school.

Facilities

The Intermediate Division is located at 40 Forest Avenue, Mississauga, the Main Campus of Mentor College. Students from Grades 5-8 enjoy three gymnasia, three science labs and two choral/instrumental music rooms. The students also make use of our adjacent indoor pool, spend a week at our Outdoor Education Centre, and take part in several field trips each year.

Extracurricular Activities

Learning goes beyond the classroom at Mentor College…there is always a huge list of extra-curricular activities on the go! Our choirs and bands compete in the instrumental and choral contests during the Peel Music Festival, we always present a division-wide musical/drama production in June, and our athletic programme produces teams that are always among the favourites at their tournaments as the school has won over 130 PSAA championships.

Intermediate Staff

Mentor College hires only qualified teachers. Many of the Intermediate teachers have subject specialties and all exhibit a warm and sensitive attitude towards the children.

Int P

"Bridging the years between primary school and high school, the important intermediate years support students as both individuals and as members of the greater community. The students’ academic progress is carefully monitored as they are encouraged to become responsible, independent learners."
